Last rites given to the monks who were killed in Sviatogorsk Lavra shelling
On June 3, 2022, in the Assumption Cathedral of the Sviatogorsk Lavra, Metropolitan Arseny of Sviatogorsk performed the funeral service for the monks who had died during the shelling of the monastery. This was reported by the press service of the Donetsk Eparchy on its Facebook page.
Last rites were given by the brethren and parishioners of the monastery to the Dean of the Lavra, Archimandrite Galaktion (Vuychenko), the monk Aristoklius (Khvoshchina), and the nun Varvara (Kisel).
Reportedly, on June 1, due to the incessant shelling, it was not possible to bury the dead. Divine services of the feast of the Ascension of the Lord were performed in the monastery's basement.
On June 2, the clothed bodies of the deceased monks were transferred to the Assumption Cathedral, where, according to the church charter, the Gospel and the Apostle were read over them.
On June 3, the murdered inhabitants of the monastery were buried behind the altar of the Assumption Cathedral following the last rites. Explosions did not cease during the funeral service.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that another monk of the Sviatogorsk Lavra, wounded during the shelling of the monastery, reposed in the hospital.
