Rainbow flag torn up at a rally against LGBT propaganda in Georgian capital
On June 9 in Tbilisi, Georgia, representatives of conservative movements held a rally against "European values" and burned LGBT and EU flags, reports the Sputnik-Georgia website. This was done during a protest called "No to Sodom in Georgia" held in front of the Lithuanian Embassy. The protesters brought posters with crossed-out photos of European diplomats.
One of the protesters tore openly a rainbow flag, the symbol of LGBT. Another did the same with an EU flag, saying: "The EU is forcing this filth on us!
Police officers tried to stop the activist and later put him in their car. The detainee turned out to be Alexander Palavandishvili – a son of the leader of the far-right “Georgian Idea” movement Guram Palavandishvili. Soon another rally participant was taken into a police car. "Whether they were detained or just removed from the area is not yet known," the website commented.
Opponents of the LGBT movement held placards reading "LGBT diplomats, keep your filthy hands off our children," "All disgraceful LGBT ambassadors should be expelled from Georgia," "No Eurosodom in Georgia!" and "By what right are you interfering in our internal affairs?!".
In Georgia, defacing the EU flag is fined 1 000 lari (330 USD).
