BOC rep: Dialogue of Local Churches to determine name for Macedonian Church

The hierarch of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Metropolitan Gabriel of Lovech, commented on the decision of the Synod on the name of the Macedonian Church and the reaction of the President of North Macedonia to it on the air of the Bulgarian National Radio.

“The letter of the Serbian Patriarch says that the name of the Macedonian Orthodox Church will be clarified in the dialogue with the Greek-speaking and other Local Churches. There was nothing political in our decision,” Bishop Gabriel said.

“Let politicians stop turning people against each other. We try to look for goodness, love between people, what binds us, and not to invent various barriers, many of which do not exist at all,” the BOC hierarch noted.

Earlier, the President of North Macedonia, Stevo Pendarovski, said that the decision on the name of the Macedonian Church should not be considered by the Synod of the BOC.

Earlier, the UOJ reported that, according to Metropolitan Seraphim of Nevrokop, the issues of the territory and the name of the new autocephalous Church will be established in the course of recognition by all Local Churches.
