On December 23, 2025, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis stated that without active protection of Christians in the Middle East, the region risks losing its historical religious presence following the trilateral summit between Greece, Cyprus, and Israel, reports Orthodox Times.

The head of the Greek government emphasized that the Eastern Mediterranean is experiencing a period of profound transformations associated with serious risks to stability and security.

Speaking about the situation in the Middle East, the Prime Minister confirmed support for the territorial integrity of Lebanon and emphasized the importance of restoring security in Syria while respecting religious and ethnic diversity.

He also stated that the international community must decisively confront terrorism and religious hatred, emphasizing that without such actions, the Middle East may ultimately lose its centuries-old Christian presence.

Earlier, the UOJ wrote that Greece will finance the restoration of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem.
