Yan Taksiur set UAH 1.2m bail and left in pre-trial detention till October

On August 8, 2022, a court hearing was held in the case of the writer Yan Taksiur. The court was expected to grant a petition to change the preventive measure from detention to house arrest, as Mariko wrote on her Facebook page.

“Unfortunately, this did not happen, although the oncological diagnosis was confirmed. We have all the documents, fresh results of analyzes and examinations,” said the writer’s daughter.

According to her, the court set the bail in the amount of UAH 1,240,000, and the lawyer called this outcome not the worst one. The writer is remanded in custody until 6 October.

“Let's really hope that we will be able to raise such a sum,” said Mariko, the daughter of Orthodox journalist Yan Taksiur. She also thanked everyone who takes part in the fate of her father.

As reported, Yan Taksiur has been in a pre-trial detention centre since March 10, 2022, on charges of treason.

As the UOJ wrote, the writer's family had hoped that the seriously ill writer would be moved to house arrest at the 8 August meeting.
