In January 2026, former president of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko made a statement about the inadmissibility of holding presidential elections before the end of hostilities. Ukrainian blogger Anatoliy Shariy drew attention to his words, publishing the corresponding fragment of the speech on his Telegram channel.

In Poroshenko's opinion, the Verkhovna Rada should officially record the impossibility of holding elections during wartime. The ex-president stated: "Parliament must declare that elections are only possible when the war ends."

He emphasized that any elections under current conditions, according to him, would not be recognized as legitimate. "Otherwise, no one will recognize the results of these pseudo-elections," Poroshenko declared.

Instead of the electoral process, according to Poroshenko, the state should focus on other priorities. "We must concentrate on the army, the language, faith, the EU and NATO," he added.

Earlier, the UOJ wrote that Syrskyi awarded the "Golden Cross" to a UOC cleric of the Volyn Eparchy.
