More than 40% of Ukraine’s reserved clergy are Protestants

As of the end of January 2026, 5,937 clergy of various denominations and religious organizations in Ukraine – excluding UOC clergy – had officially received exemption from mobilization. Of these, more than 40% are Protestants. Such data were published by NGL.media, citing a response from the State Service for Ethnopolitics and Freedom of Conscience (DESS).
“As of 31.01.2026, 5,937 clergy have been reserved, including 4,412 clergy who are heads of religious organizations, and 1,525 clergy who work in religious organizations under employment contracts,” the State Service for Ethnopolitics reported.
More than 40% of those reserved belong to Protestant denominations, while representatives of other confessions account for a smaller share. For example, Orthodox (excluding the UOC) comprise 28.8% (1,708 people), and Greek Catholics 22.3% (1,325 clergy).
As the UOJ previously reported, DESS announced a new stage of reserving clergy – but without UOC clergy.
