Shevchuk gifts Pope Francis with a fragment of mine

On November 7, the head of the UGCC, Sviatoslav Shevchuk, met with Pope Francis in the Vatican. During the audience, Shevchuk presented the pontiff with a shrapnel of the Russian mine. The head of the UGCC wrote about this on his Facebook page.

Shevchuk called his gift symbolic, noting that this mine destroyed the facade of the UGCC temple in Irpin in March 2022.

“Similar fragments of mines, bombs and rockets are taken daily from the bodies of the military, civilian and even innocent children. These are visible signs of total destruction and death that Russia is carrying on Ukrainian soil,” wrote the head of the UGCC.

As reported by the UOJ, the Pope said that he "has love for the Ukrainian and Russian peoples."
