Muslims of Russia call war with Ukraine "sacred jihad"

On April 3, 2026, a meeting of imams who are participating in Russia's war against Ukraine took place at the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Chechnya. During the meeting, the Chief Mufti of Chechnya Sheikh Salakh-Haji Mezhiev stated that the mission of imams "in combat conditions is an example of true service to religion and the people."
Also, Mezhiev declared at the meeting that the Russians' war in Ukraine is a "sacred jihad."
Earlier, the UOJ wrote that, according to the Ukrainian mufti, the war that Ukraine is waging against Russia is jihad.
