On April 28, 2026, an unidentified man attempted to set fire to a mosque in Lviv by throwing two bottles with a flammable mixture into the building, the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Crimea reported on Facebook.

The incident occurred in the evening at the Islamic Religious and Cultural Center located within the “Pivdennyi” shopping complex. According to police, the attacker was wearing a mask and fled the scene after the attack. The fire was quickly extinguished, and no one was injured.

The Muslim community described the incident as a deliberate provocation.

“We view this incident as an intentional provocation aimed at destabilizing the religious situation and creating an artificial conflict,” the statement said.

The appeal also stressed that such actions are intended to intimidate and incite hostility. Believers were urged to remain calm and not to respond to provocations.

A criminal case has been opened under an article concerning intentional damage to property. The suspect faces up to ten years in prison.

As previously reported by the UOJ, PACE has expressed concern over combating antisemitism and Islamophobia.
