Metropolitan Tikhikos was evicted from the building of the Paphos Metropolis

On the morning of June 4, 2026, Metropolitan Tychikos of Paphos was evicted from the Paphos Metropolis building in Cyprus. This is reported by UOJ in Greece. According to the source, the eviction took place under conditions of strong pressure and intimidation.

The day before, throughout June 3, a significant police presence was observed around the metropolis buildings. Archbishop George of Cyprus had previously publicly stated that he was ready to resort to police assistance to remove Tychikos from church buildings.

The situation around the Paphos Metropolis remained unresolved for several months. Tychikos contested the canonicity of his removal and insisted on his presence in church buildings. The matter took on a legal dimension with the involvement of lawyers – the hierarch sought recognition of his position as the lawful canonical metropolitan. The situation escalated against the backdrop of the planned enthronement of newly elected Metropolitan Gregory on June 11, 2026.

As UOJ reported, Metropolitan Tychikos declared his readiness to appeal to Cypriot and European courts.
