On the morning of June 4, 2026, Metropolitan Tychikos of Paphos was evicted from the building of the Paphos Metropolis in Cyprus, UOJ Greece reports. According to the outlet, the eviction took place amid heavy pressure and intimidation.

The day before, on June 3, there was a significant police presence around the metropolis buildings throughout the day. Archbishop Georgios of Cyprus had earlier publicly stated that he was prepared to call on the police to remove Tychikos from church premises.

The situation around the Paphos Metropolis had remained unresolved for several months. Tychikos challenged the canonical legitimacy of his removal and insisted on his right to remain in the church buildings. The case also took on a legal dimension involving lawyers, as the hierarch sought recognition as the lawful canonical metropolitan.

The situation escalated ahead of the enthronement of newly elected Metropolitan Grigorios, scheduled for June 11, 2026.

As the UOJ reported, Metropolitan Tychikos said he was prepared to appeal to Cypriot and European courts.
