The Primate of the Polish Church supported the brethren of the Sviatohirsk Lavra
On June 7, 2026, a letter from the Primate of the Polish Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Sava, was read at the Sviatohirsk Lavra. Archimandrite Theophanes announced the text of the message in the Dormition Cathedral after the completion of the Divine Liturgy on the Sunday of All Saints. The head of the Local Church addressed the monastery's residents with guidance during the period of severe military trials. This was reported by the website of the Sviatohirsk Lavra.
"Christ the Lord did not call us to the glory and joy of this world. He did not promise us external peace and prosperity of earthly gifts," His Beatitude Sava reminded. The hierarch emphasized that today believers must be ready to follow the Savior to the end. "The Messiah invites us to participate in Golgotha, after which together with Him we will experience the Resurrection. Jesus calls us to seek peace in our hearts and gifts of the Spirit from heaven," the letter states.
Metropolitan Sava urged the brotherhood to maintain calm despite the difficulties of accepting sorrows. The hierarch quoted Christ's words to encourage the brotherhood: "Fear not, little flock! for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom... And lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world."
The head of the Polish Church assured the monks and laypeople of his constant support. "In these difficult days of Golgotha, God is with you. We are also with you in our prayers and goodwill. Accept our love and archpastoral blessing. Endure. The Paschal morning is already near," the bishop urged.
Currently, the Sviatohirsk Lavra continues to serve people under conditions of complete isolation and active combat operations. Fire services and ambulances have stopped coming to the monastery, and the monastery has been living without central electricity supply for more than a month. The functioning of the school and churches is maintained with the help of generators. Besides the monks, about 200 refugees are currently living in the lavra.
As SPJ reported, Metropolitan Sava filed a complaint to Constantinople regarding the actions of the OCU in Poland.
