In Toronto, prayers were offered for the repose of the murdered monk at the Holy Dormition Svyatogorsk Lavra
After the festive liturgy at the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Toronto, a memorial service was held for Monk Varsonofy, who was killed during the attack on the Lavra.
On August 28, 2026, a memorial service was held at the Holy Trinity Cathedral of the ROCOR in Toronto for the murdered monastic of the Holy Dormition Svyatogorsk Lavra, Monk Varsonofy (Turyansky). The Union of Orthodox Journalists was informed of this by the Holy Trinity Cathedral of the ROCOR in Toronto.
On the feast of the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos, the Divine Liturgy was led by the rector of the cathedral, Mitrophor Archpriest Vladimir Malchenko, co-served by the clergy. After the service, he told the parishioners about the tragic events that took place on August 23 at the Holy Dormition Svyatogorsk Lavra.
The priest recalled that as a result of the armed attack on the brotherhood of the monastery, Monk Varsonofy was killed, and two more people were seriously wounded. After this, the clergy and parishioners of the cathedral held a memorial service for the deceased monastic of the Lavra and prayed for the repose of his soul.
The Holy Trinity Cathedral also expressed prayerful support for the abbot, the brotherhood, and all the monastics of the Svyatogorsk Lavra. In their address, the clergy wished them strength, God's help, and the Protection of the Most Holy Theotokos in the current difficult trials, and called upon all to preserve the prayerful memory of the murdered Monk Varsonofy.
