On June 19, 2026, Catholic priest Fr. Yuhanna Al-Amin, rector of St. Vincent Parish in Kauda, was killed in the Nuba Mountains. Along with the cleric, the victims of the attack included the parish guard and another local resident, ACI Africa reports.

The killing was an act of revenge for the priest’s principled stance. Fr. Yuhanna had reported the theft of medicines that the Church had been keeping to provide medical aid to residents of the region in need. Amid the prolonged conflict and poverty, the parish remained the only accessible source of medicines and support for many families.

In recent months, many workers of humanitarian and religious missions had left the Nuba Mountains because of a surge in violence and intertribal clashes, but Fr. Yuhanna refused to abandon his parishioners.

According to those who knew him, he served in the Diocese of El Obeid for nearly 30 years and remained faithful to his duty until the end, enjoying great love and respect among young people and children.

As the UOJ reported, militants in Mozambique shot dead a Catholic bishop at his residence.
