President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that, during his meeting with the President of Switzerland, the two sides reached an agreement to support the “priority steps” in restoring the shrine. According to him, it is now important to ensure that “the entire restoration process is brought to a proper conclusion.”
Further restoration work on the cathedral will be overseen by Ukraine’s Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Speaking after receiving a report from Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko, Zelensky said emergency preservation work had already been completed at the site.
“The cathedral’s roof has been covered to prevent the building from deteriorating further due to weather conditions,” the president said.
Klymenko also briefed Zelensky on the aftermath of strikes in various regions of Ukraine and on measures to strengthen security along the northern sections of the border by the National Guard and the State Border Guard Service.
As the UOJ previously reported, the Dormition Cathedral of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra was damaged in a drone strike. Specialists from the State Emergency Service carried out emergency conservation work on the most heavily damaged sections of the church to prevent further deterioration of the historic shrine.
