On July 17, celebrations marking the 25th anniversary of the glorification of Hieromartyr Nicholas of Iskrovka were held at the Exaltation of the Holy Cross Church of the UOC in the village of Iskrovka, Kirovograd Oblast. This was reported by Archpriest Kirill Bozhko on Facebook.
The festive Divine Liturgy was led by Metropolitan Boholep of Alexandría and Svitlovodsk, concelebrated by the clergy of the Alexandrian Diocese and priests who had arrived for the celebrations.
Hundreds of pilgrims from various regions of Ukraine gathered for the service to pray together and venerate the memory of the saint.
After the service, the clergy and faithful performed a religious procession around the church with prayers to Hieromartyr Nicholas of Iskrovka.
Hieromartyr Nicholas of Iskrovka (born Nikolai Mikhailichenko in secular life) served as the rector of the church in the village of Iskrovka. In 1919, he accepted a martyr's death for his faithfulness to Christ. According to Church tradition, shortly before his death the priest learned of the forthcoming trials and responded: "For Your sake, O Lord, I am ready to endure to the end."
In 2000, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church numbered Father Nicholas among the saints, and his holy relics were discovered and became a place of prayerful veneration for the faithful.
As the UOJ reported, a religious procession with the reliquary of the saints of Alexandria was held in Znamyanka.
