On August 12, 2026, on the feast day of the Vorghol Icon of the Mother of God, Metropolitan Roman of Konotop and Hlukhiv celebrated the Divine Liturgy in the village of Vorghol at the site of the appearance of the miraculous image and led the rite of glorification before the holy icon. This was reported by the Konotop Diocese of the UOC.
The Vorghol Icon of the Mother of God had long been kept in the Church of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos in the village of Vorghol, Hlukhiv district, Chernihiv Governorate. According to historical records, the ancient image had been in the church since time immemorial. A silver crown adorning the icon bore an inscription stating that it had been donated in 1751.
Tradition associates the Vorghol holy icon with numerous cases of miraculous assistance and healings. In 1850, by order of the ecclesiastical authorities, a special investigation was conducted into reports of miracles, after which the Holy Synod permitted the local veneration of the Vorghol Icon of the Mother of God.
Particularly well known are the accounts relating to the cholera epidemic of 1848. The icon was carried through infected areas, and, according to church historical records, after the image was brought, the disease would weaken and then cease. In 1867, the local clergy also reported to the diocesan authorities seven documented cases of healings from various illnesses.
During the godless persecutions, the church in Vorghol was destroyed and the original miraculous image disappeared. Copies of the Vorghol Icon and its description have survived to the present day.
At the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy, the rite of glorification was performed before the Vorghol Icon of the Mother of God. Metropolitan Roman congratulated the clergy and parishioners on the feast day, after which he sprinkled the faithful with holy water.
As the UOJ reported, thousands of faithful prayerfully honored the Mother of God at the Pochaiv Lavra.
