Konotop Eparchy venerates miraculous Vorhol Icon of Mother of God

On August 12, 2026, the feast day of the Vorhol Icon of the Mother of God, Metropolitan Roman of Konotop and Hlukhiv celebrated the Divine Liturgy in the village of Vorhol at the site where the miraculous icon appeared and led a rite of glorification before the holy image, the Konotop Eparchy of the UOC reports.
The Vorhol Icon of the Mother of God was kept for centuries in the Church of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos in the village of Vorhol, Hlukhiv district of the Chernihiv Governorate. According to historical accounts, the ancient icon had been kept in the church since time immemorial. An inscription on the silver crown adorning the icon stated that it had been donated in 1751.
Tradition associates the Vorhol icon with numerous cases of miraculous help and healing. In 1850, Church authorities ordered a special investigation into reports of miracles, after which the Holy Synod authorized the local veneration of the Vorhol Icon of the Mother of God.
Particularly well known are accounts dating back to the cholera epidemic of 1848. The icon was carried in procession through affected areas and, according to historical Church records, after the icon was brought there, the disease subsided and eventually ceased. In 1867, the local clergy also reported to the eparchial authorities seven documented cases of healing from various illnesses.
During the atheist persecutions, the church in Vorhol was destroyed and the original wonderworking icon disappeared. Copies of the Vorhol Icon and a description of the original have survived to this day.
At the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy, a rite of glorification was celebrated before the Vorhol Icon of the Mother of God. Metropolitan Roman congratulated the clergy and parishioners on the feast and then sprinkled the faithful with holy water.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that thousands of faithful prayerfully honored the Mother of God at Pochaiv Lavra.
