Researchers from the human rights organization ADL have recorded the highest levels of antisemitic sentiment among EU countries in Cyprus and Greece. According to the results of a global survey, more than half of the adult population in these Mediterranean countries share similar views, reports the GreekReporter.

In Cyprus, sociologists identified negative attitudes toward Jews among 627,000 people, which constitutes a majority of the country's population, given that the total number of residents is less than one million. At the same time, 81% of Cypriot respondents expressed the conviction that Jews have too much influence in global business. The results show that Cyprus ranks first in the region in terms of antisemitic sentiment.

Greece took second place in the European ranking, where approximately 4.3 million adult citizens demonstrate a high level of antisemitism. Two thirds of survey participants in the country believe in the existence of a small group of people who secretly control key world events.

Belgium ranked third on the list with a figure of 30% , while the average level of such sentiment in the rest of Western Europe is only 17%.

Globally, researchers estimate the share of the adult population holding antisemitic views at 46%, which amounts to 2.2 billion people and is more than twice the figure recorded a decade ago.

As the UOJ reported, Ukraine has decided to introduce the post of coordinator for combating antisemitism.
