In Jerusalem, volunteers have begun accompanying Catholic nuns due to a rise in religious violence. The human rights organization "Religious Freedom Information Center" recorded a threefold increase in incidents of aggression by Jewish radicals, reports the Associated Press.

Particular concern among believers was raised by a recent incident involving the beating of one of the sisters, after which police detained and charged a resident of a Jewish settlement on the West Bank. The injured nun conducts academic research at the French Biblical and Archaeological School of Jerusalem. Catholic Sister Mayela from Mexico admitted that she now feels fear when going out on the street in her monastic habit.

To protect Christian clergy and monks, public figure Iska Harani created a special monitoring group. Activists accompany believers during their movements around the city and record all incidents of violations to pass the information on to police. In recent times, observers have registered approximately one incident per day, with the majority of attacks carried out by radically minded ultra-Orthodox Jews.

As the UOJ reported, Jews in Jerusalem spat on and insulted an RCC priest.
