US police detain participants of anti-Islamic demonstration

In the American city of Dearborn, law enforcement officers took twenty-two people into custody. Police detained activists who caused street disturbances during a mass protest against the Muslim community, reports CBS News.

The "Christian Crusaders March" was initiated by conservative activist Jake Lang. His supporters, among whom was Detroit pastor Lorenzo Sewell, filled the Henry Ford Library, where city authorities had previously relocated the city council meeting. Several hundred more demonstrators gathered on the grounds surrounding the building.

As a result of the clashes, police officers arrested offenders aged 18 to 64. Those detained included not only Michigan residents but also people from New York and Tennessee. All of them were charged with minor offenses, including disorderly conduct and disturbing the peace. At the same time, none of the protesters, bystanders, or law enforcement officers were injured during the incidents.

The Dearborn Police Department stated that, while the majority of those present inside and around the building "protested peacefully," "several individuals committed unlawful acts that required police intervention."

To restore order, local police brought in additional law enforcement forces, including Michigan state officers, Wayne County sheriffs, and the Detroit mounted police. Dearborn Police Chief Issa Shahin expressed gratitude to his colleagues for their prompt assistance in containing the difficult situation.

As the UOJ reported, a Scottish man was detained for anti-Muslim actions.
