Conservative Anglicans call for rebellions against leader of England’s Church
Despite the document having been approved by houses of bishops and the laity, the house of clergy blocked its adoption (with 93 “yes” votes against 100 “no” votes).
In response to that GAFCON (Global Anglican Future Conference, set up in 2008 – ed.) urged to the “new vision” of Anglican Community. The statement published on Monday, 20 February, writes: “Despite its enduring historic symbolism, Canterbury can no longer be the defining centre, but through the Gafcon movement a growing number of faithful Anglicans are now recovering their true identity in the gospel itself as the Bible is restored to its rightful place at the heart of the Communion.”
In his turn, Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby and Archbishop of York John Sentam called to “Christian integration” with gay couples. In their opinion, the Church teaching of being human and of being sexual has to keep abreast with the 21st century.
