As a "holy soul-snatcher": UGCC head claims about a special mission of the Uniates
Svyatoslav Shevchuk stated that the Eastern Catholic Churches have a special mission: to promote unity among all believers in Christ. "All Christians," he said, "should pray, work and, if necessary, even die for the restoration of the visible and complete unity of the Church of Christ".

He was ill-famous for the exceptional cruelty, with which he forcibly planted the Union of Brest in the territory of present-day Belarus, and the activities to close Orthodox churches.
