The structure under Metropolitan Epifaniy has stated that the Tomos symbolizes unity, spiritual freedom, and a return to one’s roots.

In Cherkasy, the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU) is inviting visitors to view a copy of the Tomos of autocephaly displayed in the St. Michael’s Cathedral, which was seized from the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC). According to a Facebook post by the cathedral, the UOC does not possess such a Tomos.

The OCU claims that this demonstrates that "the UOC operates in Ukraine as a branch of another Church, and its canonical status is defined by its dependence on Moscow."

As reported by the UOJ, representatives of the UOC have explained why they continue to adhere to the Charter of Patriarch Alexy II, which affirms their canonical status within the Moscow Patriarchate.
