Head of Phanar ready to celebrate Easter on unified date with Catholics
Patriarch Bartholomew responds to the Pope's proposal regarding the date of Easter.
Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople has expressed his readiness to establish a unified date for celebrating Easter with the Roman Catholic Church. He announced this during his speech at the Palace of Europe in Strasbourg, marking the opening of the winter session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Ukrinform reports.
"Recent exchanges between the Churches of Rome and Constantinople have strengthened ecclesiastical ties. The Ecumenical Patriarchate seeks Christian unity not only through theological dialogue but also through active discussions on a unified date for Easter. We believe that the joint celebration of the anniversary of the Council of Nicaea should inspire renewed theological discussions and Christian cooperation," emphasized Patriarch Bartholomew.
As previously reported by the UOJ, on January 25, 2025, Pope Francis called on Christians to unify the date of Easter.
