Patriarch Bartholomew spoke about the important role of the Greek language in the connection between Christianity and Hellenism.
On February 11, 2025, at the Cultural Center of the Greek Diaspora in Istanbul, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew participated in the celebration of World Greek Language Day, fosfanariou reports.
In his speech, Patriarch Bartholomew called Greek the "mother language of the spirit" and stressed its historical significance.
"In all our hearts, there lives a sense of pride for our language – the language of our ancestors and our present, which serves as a key to entering what is perhaps the greatest intellectual paradise in the world," he said.
Speaking about the connection between language, philosophy, and theology, Patriarch Bartholomew noted that "all those engaged in philosophy, wherever they may be, think in Greek."
At the conclusion of his speech, he called for the preservation of the Greek language in the era of artificial intelligence, describing it as "a language unmatched among the 2,700 languages of the world."
Earlier, the UOJ reported that Patriarch Bartholomew accused the ROC of ingratitude toward the Mother Church.
