A total of 5,269 parishioners participated in the assembly, reaffirming their loyalty to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

On February 23, 2025, a general assembly of the religious community was held at St. Nicholas Church of the UOC in Chernivtsi. According to a Facebook post by the parish, 5,269 parishioners voted to remain within the Ukrainian Orthodox Church under the leadership of His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry.

The voting took place after a communal prayer.

Orthodox believers in Bukovyna reminded attendees of several historical facts about their sacred church. Notably, the church has never been closed – not during the Romanian era, nor during Soviet rule, nor in independent Ukraine. When the Soviet authorities closed the Holy Spirit Cathedral in 1961, St. Nicholas Church became the cathedral of the Chernivtsi Eparchy for many years.

Additionally, it was noted that the people of Bukovyna have a special love for this church. It is always full, and therefore, three Divine Liturgies are held there every Sunday. For over 20 years, the parish has hosted a Sunday school, where children study the Law of God and artistic craftsmanship.

In 2020, parishioners celebrated the 80th anniversary of the church’s consecration and produced a film about its history, the priests who served there, and its founders.

Earlier, the UOJ reported that on February 16, 2025, 4,506 parishioners participated in a religious assembly of the Holy Spirit Cathedral of the UOC.
