According to the Patriarch, it is the Orthodox faith that "has shaped, united, and preserved us as a people throughout the centuries, even in the darkest and most hopeless times."

On March 3, 2025, His Holiness Patriarch Daniel, Primate of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, officiated a service in honor of the 147th anniversary of Bulgaria’s liberation from Ottoman rule.

The festivities in Sofia began with a memorial prayer for all those who perished on the battlefield for the freedom of the Fatherland, followed by a thanksgiving service, both led by His Holiness Patriarch Daniel of Bulgaria.

In his address, the hierarch emphasized that the Orthodox faith is the foundation of the unity and strength of the Bulgarian people:

"The true strength of our people lies in its spirituality and culture, which, in turn, are based on our Orthodox faith – the faith and trust in God."

According to the Patriarch, it was faith that "shaped, united, and preserved us as a people throughout the centuries, even in the darkest and most hopeless times. It inspired our ancestors and our Orthodox brethren who came to grant us freedom."

Earlier, it was reported that the head of the Bulgarian Church said he implores the Lord to save, comfort, and have mercy on all brothers and sisters who suffer and are persecuted for His holy name.
