Pokrovsky Church of UOC damaged by Russian shelling in Velyka Pysarivka
A shell pierced the roof and damaged the walls.
On March 5, 2025, the Church of the Protection of the Most Holy Theotokos in the urban-type settlement of Velyka Pysarivka, Okhtyrka District, Sumy Region, was damaged due to Russian shelling, according to the press service of the Sumy Eparchy. The shell pierced the church's roof, damaged its walls, and shattered windows.
The church’s abbot, Archimandrite Justin (Skoromny), stated that it is currently impossible to assess the interior condition of the sanctuary due to ongoing shelling and the threat posed by enemy drones.
Previously, the UOJ reported that, according to the authors of the project "Religion in Fire: Three Years of War in Numbers," a total of 339 UOC churches have been damaged by shelling, with 31 completely destroyed.
