UOC Synod decides to celebrate 1700th anniversary of First Ecumenical Council

The celebrations will take place on June 1, 2025.
During the meeting of the Holy Synod on March 19, 2025, a decision was made on the celebration by the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the 1700th anniversary of the First Ecumenical Council, the Information and Education Department of the UOC reports.
The celebrations will take place on June 1, 2025, on the Sunday of the Holy Fathers of the First Ecumenical Council.
The First Ecumenical Council, which took place in 325 in the city of Nicaea (modern Turkey), became a landmark event in the history of Christianity, the press service of the UOC recalls. It adopted the Nicene Creed, which defined the foundations of Orthodox theology, and condemned the Arian heresy. The Council played a pivotal role in the formation of the ecclesiastical doctrine and the strengthening of Christian unity. In particular, the Council's decisions established the principle of determining the day of Easter for the entire Church.
As the UOJ previously reported, on March 19, a session of the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church was held at the residence of the Primate of the UOC in the Panteleimon Convent in Feofaniya.
