Zelensky supports Merz’s proposal for Christmas truce
The president backed the German chancellor’s idea of halting hostilities over Christmas.
On December 15, 2025, during a meeting with journalists, Volodymyr Zelensky said he supports the proposal by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz for a Christmas truce, Interfax reported.
“Friedrich did indeed propose such an idea. And today he voiced it both officially and during our conversations,” Zelensky said. He added that the United States also supports the idea of a holiday ceasefire, but that everything depends on the political will of the Russian Federation.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that Zelensky congratulated Jews on Hanukkah.
