In Sumy, UOC church prepares over 40,000 meals for the needy
The Church of Prophet Elijah of the Sumy Eparchy (UOC) prepared over 40,000 meals for the needy, refugees, and the sick in 2025.
St. Elijah's Church of Sumy prepared over 40,000 meals for those in need in 2025. This was reported by the press service of the Sumy Eparchy of the UOC.
A separate kitchen and dining room were built at the church to ensure the continuous operation of the refectory. Priests engage in conversations with the refectory visitors and provide primary medical assistance to those in need. Single mothers, refugees, displaced persons, and the sick receive financial and material assistance at the church in addition to daily charitable meals. The charitable meal is attended daily by 80 to 120 people, most of whom are low-income, elderly, and displaced persons.
The press service of the eparchy notes that "the service of the charitable refectory at St. Elijah's Church in 2025 became a living testimony that the Church remains close to people in their daily needs, responding to the challenges of war with concrete acts of mercy and love for one's neighbor."
Earlier, the UOJ reported that the Sumy Eparchy donated over a million hryvnias for children with cancer.
