Monastic tonsure performed in women's skete of Velyka Uholka village
The monastic vows were taken by a novice of the St. Nicholas Skete of the Khust Eparchy.
On January 2, 2025, at the St. Nicholas Women's Skete of the UOC in the village of Velyka Uholka in Transcarpathia, Archbishop Simeon of Uholka performed the monastic tonsure of the novice Olena (Furman), as reported by the press service of the Khust Eparchy.
Olena was tonsured into monasticism with the name Barbara, in honor of the holy martyr Barbara Chernyshova, who suffered a martyr's death for Christ in 1919.
After the tonsure, Archbishop Simeon spoke about the high calling of monastic life. He congratulated the abbess, the sisters of the monastery, and the faithful on this important event. The bishop wished the newly tonsured nun Barbara "strength of spirit, zeal in the feat of monastic life, and unceasing prayer, so that the Lord, through the intercession of her heavenly patroness, would strengthen her on the path of salvation."
As reported by the UOJ, Metropolitan Pimen performed a monastic tonsure at the Horodok Сonvent of Rivne.
