The ruling hierarch of the Cherkasy Eparchy celebrated his first service after illness together with the clergy and faithful.

Metropolitan Theodosiy of Cherkasy and Kaniv, on January 7, 2026, the feast of the Nativity of Christ, presided at the Divine Liturgy in Cherkasy at the episcopal compound of the Nativity of Christ. According to the Cherkasy Eparchy press service, it was the hierarch’s first service after a prolonged illness.

The faithful of Cherkasy warmly welcomed the metropolitan, and children recited Christmas verses for him.

Concelebrating with the hierarch were the vicars of the Cherkasy Eparchy – Archbishop Ioann of Zolotonosha and Bishop Antoniy of Korsun-Shevchenkivskyi. Clergy and the sisters of the Martha and Mary Sisterhood of Mercy also took part in the service, offering prayers for the Church, which is facing persecution.

After the Liturgy, a festive concert was held by the children’s Sunday school, where the children greeted the hierarchs and everyone present. Metropolitan Theodosiy gave each child a Christmas gift, and the sisters of mercy organized a shared festive meal for the parishioners.

As the UOJ previously reported, the Metropolitan of Cherkasy was discharged from hospital after poisoning.
