Shevchuk to Cherkasy officials: UGCC is on the information war front lines
The head of the UGCC told officials in Cherkasy region that the church has become an important participant in the information war.
During a meeting with the leadership of Cherkasy region and the city on January 9, 2026, Sviatoslav Shevchuk said that the UGCC is now “on the front line of the information front” and is involved in countering Russian propaganda. The UGCC website ugcc.ua reported this.
In his conversation with the head of the Cherkasy Regional Military Administration, Ihor Taburets, Cherkasy Mayor Anatolii Bondarenko, and members of the city council, the key topic was the informational dimension of the UGCC’s ministry.
Shevchuk said his denomination views the information space as one of the key battlefields of the modern war.
“The Church today stands on the front line of the information front, because Russian propaganda kills no less brutally than weapons,” he believes.
According to Shevchuk, the consequences of the war will require long-term work with society. He paid special attention to the role of “high-quality communication” in resisting information threats.
During the meeting with Cherkasy Mayor Anatolii Bondarenko, Shevchuk spoke about the need for close cooperation between the church and the state: “The key to victory and success is state–church partnership.”
As the UOJ reported, earlier Shevchuk said that Jesus Christ got incarnated and became a Ukrainian soldier.
