In Lviv region, another "Jehovah's witness" convicted for refusing mobilization
A Jehovah's witness from Stryi received three years of imprisonment for evading military service, citing religious beliefs.
A court in the Lviv region sentenced a resident of the city of Stryi who identified himself as a Jehovah’s Witness and refused to perform military service during mobilization, citing his religious beliefs. This was reported by the website zaxid.net.
During the court hearing, the accused did not admit his guilt. He explained that TRC employees detained him on the street in Stryi and brought him to the TRC. There he stated that he wished to perform alternative non-military service. He refused to receive the summons for religious reasons.
"His faith prohibits military service so as not to lose connection with God (commandment – thou shalt not kill), as noted in the case materials.
As a result, the court found him guilty of evading mobilization and sentenced him to three years of imprisonment.
The sentence can still be appealed.
As the UOJ reported, the Supreme Court denied the right to alternative service during wartime.
