MP Heorhiy Mazurashu is proposing to add a Bible Day to Ukraine’s list of commemorative dates, without introducing an additional day off.

On February 24, 2026, Member of Parliament Heorhiy Mazurashu registered a new draft law, No. 15045, which provides for establishing a commemorative Bible Day in Ukraine without designating it as a non-working day. This is stated on the official website of the Verkhovna Rada.

According to the document, the list of festive and commemorative dates is to be expanded by one more observance – Bible Day – to be marked annually in the manner established by law. The draft places particular emphasis on the cultural and spiritual role of Holy Scripture in the life of society.

Mazurashu has previously introduced parliamentary initiatives related to religious themes. In October 2025, for example, he proposed amendments to the Law “On the National Bank of Ukraine” that would require the inscription “We believe in God” to appear on Ukrainian banknotes.

Earlier, the MP also registered draft laws to introduce a Thanksgiving Day, likewise without making it a day off. Similar initiatives have been discussed in different years by other lawmakers as well, reflecting an ongoing debate about the place of spiritual and traditional values in the country’s legislative agenda.

Earlier, the UOJ reported that the Rada had changed its mind about lowering the legal marriage age to 14.
