The Primate of the Albanian Church served in Massachusetts and called for visible unity among Orthodox jurisdictions.

On March 1, 2026, in the city of Braintree, Massachusetts (USA), Archbishop Ioannis of Tirana, Durrës, and All Albania, officiated the service for the Sunday of the Triumph of Orthodoxy, UOJ in the United States reports.

The festive Divine Liturgy was celebrated at the Greek Orthodox Church of St. Catherine with the participation of hierarchs from various Orthodox jurisdictions in America. This was Archbishop Ioannis’ first visit to the United States since his election as Primate of the Albanian Church in 2025.

In his address, the Archbishop emphasized the importance of visible Orthodox unity. “The world needs to see us together – we need a visible unity,” he said, calling for closer cooperation and dialogue among Orthodox jurisdictions as a witness to the Gospel.

Archbishop Ioannis is a graduate of Hellenic College Holy Cross in the United States. During the visit, he will also take part in an international conference dedicated to the memory of his predecessor, Archbishop Anastasios of Albania.

Earlier, the Orthodox Autocephalous Church of Albania reported that Archbishop John had shared reflections on his return to ministry in the Albanian Church and on the tasks of mission in contemporary conditions.

As the UOJ previously reported that the Archbishop of Albania discussed the work of Orthodox schools with the Ministry of Education.
