The Supreme Court rejected the petition of Metropolitan Tychikos of Paphos to annul the decisions of the Synods of the Church of Cyprus and the Patriarchate of Constantinople.

Deposed Metropolitan Tychikos of Paphos received a second "no" from the Supreme Court, after it rejected his application to annul the decisions of the Holy Synod and the Patriarchate, which declared him deposed from the metropolitan throne of Paphos, reports the philenews website.

The hierarch requested an extension of the deadline for filing an application for the issuance of special court orders to annul the decision of the Synod of the Cyprus Church dated May 22, 2025 and the decision of the Phanar dated October 17, 2025. However, the court indicated that the applicant knew about the adopted decisions in a timely manner and did not take the necessary legal steps within the established timeframe.

As noted in the court ruling, the metropolitan was present at the sessions where the decisions were announced and, consequently, possessed complete information about the essence of what was happening. The court also rejected the argument that he was awaiting the result of the church appeal before turning to the civil court. In the court's opinion, the applicant should have acted "with particular urgency" and within the 45-day deadline.

As a result, the petition was definitively rejected.

As the UOJ wrote, Metropolitan Tychikos' lawyer had previously stated that the Synod's decisions were initially devoid of canonical and legal legitimacy. According to him, the archbishop was effectively removed without a full church trial, without presentation of an indictment, and without observance of procedures established by the canons. The defense insists that such actions contradict both the Statute of the Cyprus Church and the basic principles of church law, and emphasizes the necessity of reinstating the metropolitan.
