Authorities attempt to seize Krasnohirsky Monastery of Cherkasy Eparchy – media
The Prosecutor's Office demands that the ownership of the Intercession Monastery of the UOC in the village of Bakaivka be declared illegal and that it be transferred to state ownership.
The Zolotonosha District Prosecutor's Office has filed a lawsuit in the Commercial Court of the Cherkasy region to declare the UOC's ownership of the Intercession Krasnohirsky Women's Monastery in the Cherkasy region illegal. This became known from the judicial registry of Ukraine, reports the Telegram channel "Dozor".
The lawsuit was filed on March 17 with a demand to transfer the monastery to state ownership. At the same time, prosecutors call the ownership of the monastery "illegal".
It is noted that the basis for the lawsuit was a resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers, according to which a number of churches on the monastery grounds were recognized as architectural monuments. In particular, this concerns the Transfiguration and Intercession Churches. According to journalists' information, the latter church was built in our time, but was also included in this list.
The publication emphasizes that "the particular farce of the situation is added by the fact that the Krasnohirsky Monastery was never state property".
"Dozor" reports that in Soviet times they could not confiscate it. In 1922, the monastery was looted by the Bolsheviks, but by 1941 the nuns had already returned. In the 1960s, the Krasnohirsky Monastery became a refuge for many sisters. The monastery continued its prayerful devotion almost uninterrupted throughout its history.
"It gets worse," the message states, "as judge H. Skyba himself in the ruling demonstrates bias and massive violation of legislation." According to the channel's information, the court obliged representatives of the monastery to indicate which "patriarchate" it belongs to.
The hearing on the case is scheduled for April 21.
