Georgian Church thanks UOC delegation for its support
The Georgian Church has published a message of thanks to the UOC delegation for its support at the time of Patriarch Ilia’s repose.
On March 23, 2026, Metropolitan Shio, locum tenens of the patriarchal throne of the Church of Georgia, met with a delegation of the UOC and expressed gratitude to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church for its brotherly support.
This was reported by the press service of the Georgian Patriarchate. The statement says that delegations from the Orthodox Churches of Alexandria, Jerusalem, Cyprus, and Ukraine visited the patriarchal residence.
In addition to Metropolitan Shio and Metropolitan Sergiy of Ternopil and Kremenets, those present at the meeting on behalf of the Georgian Church included Chorepiscopus of the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, Metropolitan Theodore of Akhaltsikhe and Tao-Klarjeti (Chuadze), Metropolitan David of Alaverdi (Makharadze), Metropolitan Sava of Khoni and Samtredia (Gigiberia), Metropolitan Gerasime of Zugdidi and Tsaishi (Sharashenidze), Metropolitan Andrew of Gori and Ateni (Gvazava), Metropolitan Stefan of Chkondidi (Kalaijishvili), secretary to the Catholicos-Patriarch Archpriest Mikael Botkoveli, head of the Patriarchate’s public relations service Archpriest Andria Jagmaidze, Archimandrite Mikheil (Bregvadze), and other persons.
The Georgian Church press service said that the two sides exchanged symbolic gifts at the end of the meeting.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that the official UOC delegation took part in the funeral of Patriarch Ilia II.
