OCU says “UOC-KP” is its additional official name
The OCU has stated that the Kyiv Patriarchate, “as is well known,” has ceased to exist.
On April 1, 2026, the press service of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine published an official statement saying that, after the death of Filaret Denysenko, all rights to the UOC-KP brand and property had definitively passed to the OCU.
According to the statement, the names “Ukrainian Orthodox Church – Kyiv Patriarchate” and “Kyiv Patriarchate of the UOC-KP” are officially registered to the OCU as its “additional official names.” The structure headed by Dumenko warned that these names may not be used by persons who do not have special authorization to do so.
The OCU also declared its ownership rights to the building complex on Chykalenko Street, formerly Pushkinska Street, as well as to St. Volodymyr’s Cathedral in Kyiv.
“After the repose of His Holiness Patriarch Filaret, the Patriarchal Residence in Kyiv passed under the direct administration of the Kyiv Metropolia of the OCU,” the organization said. St. Volodymyr’s Cathedral has now been officially designated the second cathedral church of the head of the OCU, alongside St. Michael’s Golden-Domed Monastery.
At the same time, the text of the OCU Tomos contains no mention whatsoever of the name “UOC-KP.” In that document, the OCU is referred to exclusively as the “Most Holy Church of Ukraine.”
Earlier, the UOJ reported that Dumenko had taken control of the UOC-KP patriarchal headquarters.
