In Pakistan, a speeding truck plowed into an Easter procession involving about 300 people, leaving one dead and dozens injured.

On April 5, 2026, in Pakistan’s Punjab province, a truck traveling at high speed crashed into an Easter procession of the Catholic community, killing one person and injuring at least 30 others, according to Christian Daily. Other reports put the number of injured higher, but they likewise confirm one death and a mass-casualty incident during an Easter sunrise procession in Punjab.

The incident occurred early in the morning as more than 300 worshippers were making their way with candles to the Easter service. The faithful were singing hymns and praying when a truck suddenly drove into the procession. Christian Daily reports that the crash took place during an Easter sunrise procession in Wazirabad district, while other coverage places it near Gujranwala on Wazirabad Road.

According to a priest from the Catholic community, the participants had been peacefully celebrating when the vehicle sped into the crowd. Several people were struck, while others suffered serious injuries. The wounded were taken to hospitals, and some were reported to be in critical condition. One of the injured later died.

The truck driver fled the scene, while police detained his assistant and opened a criminal case. According to preliminary information, excessive speed may have caused the crash, and law enforcement says there is so far no evidence that the vehicle was driven into the crowd deliberately.

The incident has raised concerns about the safety of religious events in the country. The authorities promised medical care for the injured and an investigation into the case, while representatives of the Christian community called for stronger security measures during large public services.

Earlier, the UOJ wrote that Islamists killed 10 Christians in Nigeria.
