OCU “hierarch”: Red vestments at Pascha are a “Moscow tradition”
Havryil Kryzyna said he chose to distance himself from Moscow through the color of his vestments.
This year, during Paschal services, “Bishop” of the Rivne–Volyn Diocese of the OCU, Havryil Kryzyna, declined to wear red vestments. He explained his decision as an effort to distance himself from practices he considers specifically Russian.
“According to ancient universal Orthodox tradition, Paschal vestments should be of a bright, festive color,” Kryzyna wrote on his social media page.
In his view, the use of red vestments during the Paschal period is a sign of a “Moscow tradition,” which he has chosen not to follow.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that the OCU had abandoned the terms “matushka” and “servant of God.”
