Met. Irinei expresses condolences to those affected by Dnipro shelling
The Dnipropetrovsk hierarch of the UOC called for prayer for the deceased and supported the families of the victims of the April 14 tragedy.
Metropolitan Irinei of Dnipropetrovsk and Pavlohrad expressed condolences to the residents of Dnipro in connection with the tragedy that occurred on April 14, 2026, as a result of the shelling of the city.
In his address, the archpastor noted that he received the news of the death of peaceful people with deep pain during the days when the Church is preparing for the celebration of Christ's Resurrection.
:In these bright days, when every soul should rejoice in the victory of life over death, we weep over the bodies of the innocently killed, whose earthly existence was boldly interrupted by the hand of the aggressor," the address states.
Metropolitan Irinei emphasized that the Church shares the grief of the families of the deceased and offers prayers for the repose of their souls. He also expressed hope that the Lord will strengthen the relatives and loved ones of the victims in the trial they are experiencing.
"There are no words that could quench this pain, but we know that the Lord is close to sorrowful hearts," the hierarch noted.
The hierarch assured that he constantly prays for the deceased, that the Lord may grant rest to their souls "in the dwellings of the righteous", and grant their relatives spiritual strength and power to endure the heavy trial.
Metropolitan Irinei also called upon the clergy and faithful of the Dnipropetrovsk Eparchy to intensified prayer for peace and for all who have suffered, noting: "May the Lord protect our city and all of Ukraine."
According to reports from the Regional Military Administration, on April 14, Russian forces shelled Dnipro. As a result of the attack, 27 people were injured and 5 people died. 19 victims remain in hospitals. Today, April 15, a Day of Mourning for the deceased has been declared in the city.
As the UOJ reported, Metropolitan Varsonofiy expressed condolences to the victims of Vinnytsia shelling.
