Germany to limit admission of male refugees from Ukraine
Berlin intends to reduce the admission of Ukrainian men of military age and facilitate their return to their homeland in coordination with Kyiv.
On April 14, 2026, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced the introduction of restrictions for Ukrainian men seeking asylum in the country, reports European Conservative.
According to the head of the German government, Berlin intends to reduce the number of military-age men being accepted and more actively facilitate their return to Ukraine. These measures are considered as part of an updated migration policy amid the ongoing conflict.
The statement was made during a joint appearance with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The parties emphasized their readiness to coordinate actions regarding Ukrainian citizens located on German territory.
German authorities believe that the return of such citizens could contribute to strengthening Ukraine's potential, since this primarily concerns men capable of participating in the country's defense.
Berlin also noted that cooperation with Kyiv on this issue will be systematic and will become part of a broader line of support for Ukraine.
