A memorial service for the Patriarch of Georgia was held at the Dormition Cathedral, with government officials, clergy, and laypeople praying at the service.

On April 25, a memorial service was held at Tbilisi’s Dormition Cathedral on the 40th day after the repose of Patriarch Ilia II of Georgia, UOJ in Georgia reports.

The service was led by Metropolitan Shio of Senaki and Chkhorotsqu, Locum Tenens of the Patriarchal Throne.

Representatives of the country’s top leadership, clergy, and laypeople gathered in the church to honor the Patriarch’s memory.

The memorial service took place in the patriarchal Cathedral of the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos of Sioni, where numerous parishioners had assembled.

Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, and Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili attended the service.

During the service, Patriarch Ilia II’s contribution and his special role in the life of the Georgian Orthodox Church were commemorated.

Earlier, the UOJ reported that memorial services would be held at Patriarch Ilia’s grave for 40 days.
