UOC hierarch leads funeral service for Kyiv Eparchy priest killed at front
Metropolitan Augustine conducted the funeral service for Archpriest Viacheslav Lytvynenko, a longtime military chaplain.
On April 24, 2026, a memorial service was held for a cleric of the Kyiv Eparchy of the UOC. The funeral rite for Archpriest Viacheslav Lytvynenko, who served in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, was led by Metropolitan Augustine of Bila Tserkva and Bohuslav.
The service took place at the Church of the Image of the Savior Not Made by Hands in Boryspil.
The Kyiv Metropolis noted that since 2014 the priest had served, with the blessing of His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry, as a military chaplain of the General Kulchytskyi Battalion of the National Guard of Ukraine in the ATO zone. After the start of the full-scale invasion, he was mobilized into the Armed Forces of Ukraine, where he served until the final day of his earthly life. Archpriest Viacheslav died tragically in an accident on April 21.
“The Kyiv Metropolis extends its sincere condolences to the wife, children, and grandchildren of the newly departed. Eternal and blessed memory to Archpriest Viacheslav,” the statement reads.
As the UOJ reported, a cleric of the Dnipropetrovsk Eparchy died from wounds sustained in shelling.
