An LGBT march was held on Birzhova Square in Odesa as part of the International Day Against Homophobia.

On May 17, 2026, LGBT communities and their allies held an LGBT march in Odesa, described as the first such event in the city since the beginning of the full-scale war. This was reported by Suspilne Odesa.

The event took place on Birzhova Square, and participants linked the theme of the day to the public discussion surrounding bill No. 15150. Anna Leonova, executive director of the NGO Gay Alliance Ukraine, noted that the event was held in the context of public discussions about protection against hate-motivated crimes and equality. She stated that the purpose of the demonstration was to support the legislative establishment of equality and the protection of vulnerable groups.

The event was accompanied by the presence of opponents of such LGBT initiatives. Representatives of the movements “Unknown Patriots” and “For Traditional Values” said they were demonstrating “for the traditional family” and against such initiatives, while their organizer emphasized the peaceful nature of the event and coordination with the police to maintain order.

As previously reported by the UOJ, the “Kharkiv Pride” LGBT march was held in Kharkiv. This reflects the fact that similar initiatives in different cities are taking place amid controversial social issues and alongside parallel activity by traditionalist movements. In Odesa, the march and the protest actions were accompanied by two different public frameworks for understanding values.
