Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra monk reposes in the Lord
Monk Vasylii passed away after a long illness on the leave-taking of Pascha, in the 74th year of his life.
On May 20, 2026, a resident of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, Monk Vasylii – in the world, Mykhail Hnatiuk – reposed in the Lord, the monastery’s press service reports.
The monk passed away after a grave and prolonged illness. The funeral service for the newly reposed Monk Vasylii will take place on May 22 at the Lavra skete on Yahidna Street after the Divine Liturgy.
Mykhail Hnatiuk was born on November 14, 1952, in the city of Kolomyia, Ivano-Frankivsk region. Before entering the monastery, he worked as an artist, and immediately before joining the brotherhood of the Pechersk monastery, he was a laborer on the Holy Mountain of Athos.
He was admitted to the monastery in 2009. In 2015, he received monastic tonsure, and a year later the abbot of the Lavra, Metropolitan Pavel of Vyshhorod and Chornobyl, tonsured him into the mantle with the name Vasylii, in honor of Venerable Vasiliy of the Caves.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that one of the oldest clerics of the UOC had reposed in the Lord.
