The coordinator’s duties will include drafting proposals to improve legislation and cooperating with foreign states.

At a meeting on May 22, 2026, the Committee on Ukraine’s Integration into the EU considered draft law No. 14228, which amends the current law on combating antisemitism. The document proposes granting the Cabinet of Ministers the authority to appoint a special coordinator who would become the central executive body in this area.

Under the government’s plans, the new official would coordinate the work of local and central authorities and monitor compliance with the law. The coordinator’s duties would include drafting proposals to improve legislation and cooperating with international organizations and foreign states.

The special coordinator would also oversee issues related to honoring the memory of Holocaust victims and hold consultations with public associations.

Alongside the main document, committee members also approved alternative draft law No. 14228-1. It provides for tougher liability for antisemitic manifestations through amendments to the Code of Administrative Offenses and an expansion of the ombudsman’s powers.

As reported earlier by the UOJ, the authorities are creating a new body to combat antisemitism, while Jewish representatives oppose the move. The issue had previously sparked disagreements over the idea of a separate coordinator, and the committee discussion showed a shift toward a more systematic model of oversight and accountability. It also means that combating antisemitism is now being linked to assessment within the European integration agenda.
